David Kay

Chief Executive Officer

David brings over 15 years of experience in digital marketing and six years of leadership in the clinical research space, with a deep focus on patient recruitment. As President of BuildClinical, he led the company from its early growth stages through a successful acquisition by OpenClinica in 2024.

Cal Collins

Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer

Career entrepreneur. 20 years in leadership roles for software companies, focusing on technology/innovation, sales & delivery for key accounts, and finance. 15 years experience in eclinical domain. A.B. Magna Cum Laude Harvard College.

Ben Baumann

Co-founder & Chief Financial Officer

Ben Baumann has been working in the clinical research field for 16 years. He co-founded OpenClinica with colleague Cal Collins to make it easier for study teams to carry out high-quality clinical research using modern technology. Mr. Baumann has helped develop the company into a leading provider of cloud-based solutions that help automate and accelerate clinical trials, while delivering an industry-leading user experience. As OpenClinica’s Chief Financial Officer, he ensures the company’s resources are aligned to accelerate clinical trials and bring treatments to market faster. In his downtime he enjoys gardening, spending time with his wife and children, and recreating outdoors in the great state of Maine. Ben holds a B.A. with honors from Harvard College.

Chris Weiss

Chief Commercial Officer

Since 2020, Chris’s deep, hands-on experience with the OpenClinica suite of solutions has made him a key member of our team. He has over 25 years of experience in leadership roles across clinical research and data analytics organizations spanning public companies, startups, consulting firms and academia. Chris earned a bachelor of arts in computer science from Dartmouth College.

Paul Bowen

Vice President, Product

Joined OpenClinica in 2016. Instrumental in building our scalable product team. Highly cross-functional software development expert with over 15 years of eClinical product development experience. Prior roles include senior product owner at Clinical Ink and senior product manager at Outcome Sciences/Quintiles (now IQVIA).

Mark Epstein

Vice President, Growth

Mark Epstein is the Vice President of Growth at OpenClinica, bringing more than 17 years of experience in the pharma, biotech, and clinical trial space. As the head of sales, he heads strategic growth initiatives, builds key industry partnerships, and drives sales and business development efforts. Mark’s deep industry expertise comes from serving as Chief Growth Officer and Vice President with some of the industry’s most distinguished EDC and CRO organizations.

Shiva Vadla

Vice President, Engineering

Shiva has been a core team member at OpenClinica since 2017.  He is instrumental in creating our high quality, agile engineering team. Total of 17 years experience as hands-on engineer, architect, and team lead working with leading edge technologies. Prior to OC, led the engineering product team at Vecna, an innovative health IT company building patient self-service technologies.
