EHR to EDC Integration

A Short Demo

Chris Weiss, OpenClinica’s Vice President of Sales, recently led a short, live demo of our Unite EHR-to-EDC eSource solution. In the demo, Weiss showed how to use Unite to determine clinical trial eligibility based on a patient’s EHR record. In short, source data can be used in study eCRFs to complete the tasks that a coordinator would need to normally complete manually.

During the demo, Weiss launched Unite within the patient EHR and pulled data from the patient’s chart into the study database. He was able to present tailored summaries and trend reports and provide access to eCRF, eCOA and ePRO to end users.

Weiss also shared background on OpenClinica’s EHR to EDC solution:

  • Unite has been in the field supporting live studies for about four years.
  • Unite is backed by a rapidly growing network of over 450 clinical trial sites across 20+ major health systems serving tens of millions of patients.
  • The secure bridge between healthcare and research eliminates manual data transcription, reducing data entry times by 61 percent and delivering a virtually zero percent error rate for a phase two COVID study. It’s especially suited for rigorous GCP and Part 11-compliant clinical trials.

Weiss also discussed the Unite Sync module, which enables the benefits of EHR to EDC eSource automation with the added benefit of securely transferring that data in real time to a study database. This functionality also unlocks the ability to deploy other best-in-class OpenClinica solutions such as the automated legally authorized representative workflow.

Weiss also answered audience questions, including:

  • How difficult is it to integrate OpenClinica solutions with existing technology?
  • How do you manage fields and sections not populated in EHR?
  • Is OpenClinica technology easy to use? Are there some ways you would advise companies to bring eSource technology on board?
  • When you update data, are you looking for all changes or just changes on a specific form?
  • Is the audit trail available and can it be downloaded from your system?
  • How long does setup take overall? What kind of time savings in day-to-day operations are expected from EHR to EDC automation?
